What Your Moon Sign Reveals About Magnetic Attraction
You’ve probably experienced it at some point — meeting someone and feeling this immediate, almost irrational pull toward them. You can’t stop thinking about them. You catch yourself staring. Everything about them just seems to work on you, even when you can’t explain why, and even when the relationship makes zero sense on paper.
Astrology has a name for this, and more importantly, it can show you exactly where it comes from in two people’s charts.
In this post I’m going to walk you through a technique for spotting magnetic attraction between charts that is both very simple and genuinely illuminating. All you need is your moon sign and the other person’s moon sign — no software, no complex calculations.
We’ll look at what this kind of attraction actually means and how it differs from other types of chemistry, how to read the pairings in both directions, and a few celebrity examples to see how it can manifest in life.If you’d like to watch my video on this topic, here it is!
Why the Moon?
The moon governs emotions, instincts, and the sense of feeling safe and understood in someone’s presence. In Vedic Astrology, it also represents the Manas — the mind. When another person’s chart activates your moon, they reach something intimate and private in you, something that isn’t always accessible through ordinary interaction. That’s why the connection can feel so charged, even if they’re not who you’d typically go for.
Both Vedic and Western Astrology treat the Moon as one of the most critical factors in compatibility. In Vedic matchmaking in particular, the moon is the primary consideration for long-term harmony in marriage, because a relationship can only really sustain itself when both people feel emotionally at ease with each other.
What this technique measures, though, is something different from emotional ease. It’s specifically about magnetic pull — the kind that can make someone devoted, even a little obsessed, in ways that don’t always correspond to whether the relationship is actually good for them. It’s also frequently one-sided. One person feels it strongly; the other may not feel it at all (or if they feel the attraction, it’s due to other attraction factors in compatibility).
A few things to keep in mind before we get into the pairings:
Relationships are complex and no single technique explains everything. This is one layer of compatibility, not a complete picture. This method also says nothing about emotional depth or long-term harmony — it’s pointing at something much more specific. And since different astrologers work with different zodiacal systems (Tropical, Sidereal), use whatever system you already work with. I personally use the Tropical zodiac.

Who Is Magnetically Drawn to You?
The table below shows which Moon signs feel this magnetic pull toward your Moon sign. These are the people who may find themselves drawn to you in ways they can’t quite articulate — regardless of whether you feel it back.

|---|---|
| Aries | Leo or Scorpio moons |
| Taurus | Cancer or Libra moons |
| Gemini | Virgo moons |
| Cancer | Scorpio or Sagittarius moons |
| Leo | Libra moons |
| Virgo | Pisces or Gemini moons |
| Libra | Capricorn or Virgo moons |
| Scorpio | Cancer moons |
| Sagittarius | Pisces moons |
| Capricorn | Aries or Aquarius moons |
| Aquarius | Aries moons |
| Pisces | Capricorn moons |
Who Are You Magnetically Drawn To?
Now the other direction — the Moon signs most likely to spark this pull in you.
| Your Moon Sign | Who You Feel Magnetically Drawn To |
|---|---|
| Aries | Capricorn or Aquarius moons |
| Taurus | (see note below) |
| Gemini | Virgo moons |
| Cancer | Taurus or Scorpio moons |
| Leo | Aries moons |
| Virgo | Gemini or Libra moons |
| Libra | Taurus or Leo moons |
| Scorpio | Aries or Cancer moons |
| Sagittarius | Cancer moons |
| Capricorn | Libra or Pisces moons |
| Aquarius | Capricorn moons |
| Pisces | Virgo or Sagittarius moons |
On Taurus Moon: This technique doesn’t show a strong outward magnetic pull from Taurus Moons toward others. In Vedic astrology, the moon has both its mulatrikona and exaltation in Taurus, which gives Taurus Moon people a certain inner stability and pride — it may simply be that they’re less susceptible to falling hard on the basis of attraction alone.
The Difficult Side of This
It’s worth saying plainly: this kind of pull can sometimes make it very hard to let go of someone even when the relationship isn’t working. Because the draw operates on a mental and emotional level — not just physical — it tends to linger. You can know rationally that something isn’t right and still feel completely unable to walk away from it. That’s the texture of this particular type of attraction, and it’s useful to recognise it for what it is.
Some older astrology texts note that this dynamic tends to work especially well in long-term partnerships when the man feels this attraction toward the woman, because it tends to produce a particular kind of devotion and attentiveness that sustains the relationship over time. Both directions are meaningful, but that’s a nuance worth knowing.
Celebrity Examples
A few real couples to test the technique against.
Pamela Anderson & Tommy Lee
Pamela has Moon in Aries, Tommy has Moon in Scorpio. The technique places the magnetic pull on his side. He famously described her presence the first time he saw her as something close to overwhelming, proposed on their first date in Cancún, and they were married days later.
David & Victoria Beckham
David has Moon in Capricorn, Victoria has Moon in Pisces. Again, the pull is on his side. He reportedly told a teammate he was going to marry Victoria after watching her in a Spice Girls video — before they had ever spoken. His public devotion to her over the decades fits the pattern.
Johnny Depp & Winona Ryder
The same pairing as the Beckhams: his Capricorn Moon, her Pisces Moon. Depp spoke about their relationship in the kind of all-consuming terms that the technique would predict from the person who is feeling the magnetic “pull”.
Angelina Jolie & Billy Bob Thornton
Angelina has Moon in Aries, Billy Bob has Moon in Aquarius. Here the pull flows from her toward him. The relationship confounded a lot of people at the time (especially because Thornton was already engaged), but Jolie described the intensity of her feelings as reaching her to her bones — that language of being physically and emotionally overwhelmed is quite specific to the side of the person feeling the magnetic draw.
Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt
Angelina’s Moon in Aries, Brad’s moon in Capricorn. The pull again from her toward him. The chemistry between them on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith was, by most accounts, impossible to miss — which tracks.
Try It
Look up the Moon sign of whoever you’re curious about — a current partner, an ex, someone you were inexplicably drawn to years ago, or someone who seemed inexplicably drawn to you. The tables above will tell you which direction the pull runs, or whether it’s mutual.
Sometimes what Astrology offers isn’t a definitive answer so much as a way to name something you already felt but couldn’t articulate. That can be its own kind of useful.
Looking forward to reading about your personal experiences with this type of magnetic attraction! How did it feel?I’ve personally experienced it in relationships, as well as other very powerful types of chemistry explained by different Astrological techniques, which I will discuss in future articles.
